Rebo’s Money Class
Gain Knowledge and Confidence
I’m more comfortable talking about uncomfortable topics than the average person. It started with leading sex discussion groups then branched into working with thorny relationships. Now I’m extending that to money: talking and teaching about it.
I’ve discovered, however, that many people don’t feel the same. People are embarrassed about their choices, feel bad about debt, are confused by financial jargon, or just don’t feel like they have a handle on their situation. They never learned much about money from their parents or in school and don’t know what exactly they’re supposed to be doing except “spend less and save more.” How do you even do that in this economy?
A few friends recently asked me to share some of my knowledge, so I piloted a six-session series with them. It went well, with most participants stating that their knowledge and confidence around financial matters increased, so I’m now offering it others in my circle. Rebo’s Money Program begins by examining daily spending and gradually builds up to imagining your long-term hopes and dreams, with everything in between.
“Rebo gives you the space to be truthful and raw about your finances. You never feel judged, only encouraged to keep going. This class definitely gave me the space to learn more about myself.”
What makes my program different is that I allow space for your feelings and needs. It’s not an accounting class. People’s finances aren’t a black hole because the arithmetic is too hard; people avoid their finances because they feel scared, angry, frustrated, sad, dread, guilty, or another kind of negative way when they think about them. This is common – and it can also be overcome so much more easily than you imagine.
A new cohort begins in October. We will meet every two weeks through early December, with time off for the holidays. You’ll learn alongside other people who have challenges like yours and gain new perspectives. We will have regular check-ins, share experiences, and open discussions about what the heck do people actually do in the real world?
Reduce Fear and Anxiety
The topics of our six sessions include:
Your Money Story
Financial Snapshot
Debt and Paystubs
Unconscious Spending
The Big Picture
Developing Financial Goals
This program is taught via Zoom, which works well in this situation and enables folks from around the country to take part. The pilot program had people logging in from Colorado, DC, Maine, Maryland, Texas, and Virginia!
“Rebo is an incredible facilitator that brings a kind and respectful presence to her sessions. She is inclusive and stewards each participant’s journey inside and outside of the program. She pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I was grateful for the opportunity to learn with a group. ”
This program is priced using a "pay from the heart" model. Here's how it works:
You sign up for the program and pay $75 now. This covers my cost to run it.
You participate in the program and learn a bunch.
At the final class, you'll pay the rest of your tuition based on what the program has been worth to you and what you can afford.
This model allows us to account for both relative ability (some folks can afford more than others) and relative value (some folks with get more out of this program than others). This is new and a bit edgy for me, and I appreciate you trying this out with me.
